Trial pits
Hand excavation of exploratory pits adjacent to vertical structure, to expose the existing foundations.
At MJM, we work closely with the project structural engineer and architect, to ensure that the trial pits provide the information they need to inform their design. Our site team understand the purpose of the investigations and will provide regular updates as the excavation progresses. We are always happy to tweak the scope in real time, to react to site findings.
Finishes can be made good if necessary. Otherwise, open excavations will be secured with temporary covers upon completion.

Removal of finishes
Removal of non-structural finishes, e.g. plasterboard, render, brickwork, dry lining & concrete encasement, to expose loadbearing elements behind.
We work closely with the project structural engineer and architect, to identify likely locations of loadbearing structure on site and suitable locations for the opening up works. Our site team will provide regular updates as the opening up works progress, to allow the design team to react and tweak the scope of future investigations to find out as much as possible about the structure.
Finishes can be made good if necessary. Otherwise, openings will be temporarily patched with a suitable covering.
